Racing legend Steve Smith-Eccles, in association with Betting Banter and FSM Ltd, would like to invite you to a star-studded day at the races at Newmarket on Saturday 8th August 2009.
Come and join the three-time Champion Hurdle winning jockey and his special guests for a full hospitality package which includes:
Known to his legions of fans as 'The Eck', legendary National Hunt jockey Steve Smith Eccles cemented his place in Racing folklore with his historic Champion Hurdle winning rides on See You Then, starting in 1985 (after John Francome had passed up the ride!) Within the first three years of his six-year apprenticeship under legendary Newmarket trainer H. T. Jones, he rode his 1st winner at Market Rasen in October 1973 on Ballysilly, the first of many.
Altogether, 'The Eck' rode a total of 876 winners in the U.K. including nine at the Cheltenham Festival, three of which were on See You Then, winner of 3 consecutive champion hurdles in 1985, 1986, and 1987, plus 11 Grand National rides, coming 3rd in 1986 on Classified behind West Tip. He also rode over 30 winners abroad, including America's top steeplechase, the 1993 Colonial Cup on Declare Your Wish, in Camden, South Carolina, USA.
Since retiring from race riding on December 1st 1994, Steve has kept busy running a successful tipping service, and working as a jockey coach at the British Racing School. He's also an accomplished after-dinner speaker and corporate hospitality host across the U.K., plus he rides out for various Newmarket trainers, and teaches most of the towns hurdlers chasers how to jump.
When it comes to the 'Sport of Kings', Steve is our "man on the inside", with his finger firmly on the Racing pulse. Something you'll benefit from when you meet him at Newmarket on Saturday 8th August.
Angus began his career in sports broadcasting in 1986 by commentating into Ladbroke's betting shops for five years, developing their in-house service until the arrival of SIS who took it to a different level by bringing live pictures into the shops. In 1991, he went freelance and covered his first Olympic Games for Eurosport, the Winter Olympics in Albertville.
The former BBC TV betting expert, Angus is renowned for his insight into the world of gambling and is a regular freelance tipster through several outlets. His extensive knowledge of European football is essential for the commentaries which have taken him all over the world. He covers the Champions League for ESPN International, makes regular reports into BBC Radio Five Live and has commentated on Chinese football for Channel 4, Spanish football for South African television and English Premiership matches for overseas channels. He has also covered lesser known events including husky racing, indoor rock climbing and ballroom dancing.
During the first BBC2 series and when it transferred to ITV for the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2004, Angus was part of the Fantasy Football team portraying "Statto", the character created by Frank Skinner and David Baddiel. He also appeared on Central Television's sports magazine programme Late Tackle.
Sean Trivass is an experienced and well-known sports journalist who has worked for the likes of Alan Brazil, Betting Banter, The Horse Racing Club, The Racing Post, Betting Monthly Magazine (formerly known as Antepost) and Victor Chandler. He is a member of the Sports Journalists Association and the Horserace Writers and Photographers Association.
"Sir Ivor" also provides a popular daily tipping service, as well as racecourse hospitality to selected clients. Sadly for Sean, he is also a long-suffering Everton fan!
When it comes to household-name sports betting celebrities, they don't come any bigger than former Scottish International footballer and talkSPORT Breakfast Show host Alan Brazil.
During his footballing career, Alan plied his trade at Manchester United, Tottenham, Coventry, QPR, Detroit Express, the Scottish national team (most notably in the 1982 World Cup), and the legendary attacking Ipswich team of the late 70s and early 80s, where he won a UEFA Cup medal in the 80-81 season. Sadly, a serious back injury cut short his career at the age of 27.
But football's loss was radio's gain, and he began his radio career in Ipswich, with Radio Suffolk, where he was a co-commentator. His laid-back style made him a natural for the small screen, leading to his first break in TV, when he caught the attention of Anglia TV. Something which later led to appearances on GMTV, as well as Andy Gray's The Boot Room on Sky TV.
He is also a big fan of horse racing and, in 2003, formed the Alan Brazil Racing Club based at Newmarket near to his home in Suffolk. Alan is controversial, opinionated and pulls no punches. Love him or hate him, his sports betting knowledge is second to none, and is also on the editorial board the Betting Banter team of experts...
